Laura Matthews "Fun & Fruity" Winner of 13 - 16 Age Group

My inspiration for this garment was edible produce grown on farms as well as things that protect what is grown on the farm, like hessian and husks. My design is fully developed into something edible yet also beautiful. I used a farmer's pre-loved pair of jeans to make the denim top. Multiple layers of farmer's remnant hessian formed the skirt and baling twine and Velcro fasten the side opening. I then decorated the garment with dried fruit and vegetables and unwanted plant matter such as blueberries and gooseberry husks. Apple and pears were time consuming sliced, dehydrated and glued to form flowers and then attached to the garment. The dress is therefore partly edible and smells fruity, consequently making my design "Fun and Fruity."
