Official Statement - Agfest public holiday

Agfest's position on the proposed Agfest public holiday

The Agfest Organising Committee is disappointed to see the decline in support of Tasmanian agricultural shows recently.

We believe that Agfest offers a distinctly different product to an agricultural show and that local agricultural shows are important institutions for the community. We believe that there is space in the market for both Agfest Field Days and Agricultural Shows to co-exist.

The Agfest terms and conditions support this position by ruling out many activities commonly undertaken at agricultural shows; including show rides, show bags, games of chance and raffles. These terms and conditions will not change regardless of the continuation of agricultural shows in the area.

We recognise that a public holiday for Agfest may make it easier for some patrons to attend our event, this is a complex issue which requires input from all relevant stakeholders.
