Strong links between UTAS and Agriculture in Tasmania

University growing connections

Learning the science and business of agriculture is the top topic at Agfest 2018.

The University of Tasmania’s Faculty of Agriculture – offering degrees in agricultural science, applied science and agri-business – has generated huge interest at Agfest this year.

First year student, Dylan Bellchambers, is studying agricultural science and business. “Studying agriculture was a pretty easy decision. I’ve grown up on my uncle’s farm and that’s instilled a passion for agriculture in me.”

Bellchmabers grew up in Ulverstone and his family’s farm is in North Motton. They raised livestock and had a range of mixed crops.

“I considered moving out of the state for university but the reality was I wanted to study university where I’m going to be applying the knowledge, and what I’m learning is specifically relevant to Tasmania.”

UTAS student recruitment officer Vicki Dodson says that Tasmanian students have the opportunity to engage with industry at every stage of their degree.

Select degrees are available in the North and South of the state.
