BEYOND BLUE TALKING TO RURAL TASMANIANS ABOUT TOUGH TOPICS

Beyond Blue made its first appearance at Agfest this year bringing real talk about the importance of mental health in rural communities.

Beyond Blue are a nationally recognized organisation providing mental health and well being support to those in need, famous for their 24/7 helpline with over one hundred mental health professionals under their belt.

With the Covid-19 pandemic adding further pressure to the already struggling farming community after the fires and floods of the previous seasons, mental health in the rural community has been a key focus for Beyond Blue services.

Offering the opportunity for human connection and conversation was speaker Lindsey who puts all his time and energy into mental health after his own experiences with depression.

“The hope is raising awareness, so people are definitely aware of depression, anxiety, and suicide in the rural community,” Lindsey said.

“I am a Tasmanian, so that’s why I’m here today. Our farmers really are the lifeblood of our country,” said Lindsey.

The stall continued to put smiles on people’s faces offering a friendly game of snakes and ladders on a giant scale board which looked to be especially popular with the school children. Lindsey said he had only seen people climbing upwards.

You can find the Beyond Blue team at 321 on Third Ave.
