Homes of the Future

Pod Homes Tasmania has an innovative solution to affordable living.

With property prices in Tasmania continuing to rise, one local business has decided to build houses at a fraction of the cost, and a fraction of the size.

Timothy Knight is one of the directors at Pod Homes, and started the company a year ago when he noticed the demand for alternative living solutions increasing.

“Here on site we have the studio pod. We run is a modular system, so you can put together as many of these modules as you want, and make the house as big as you need. We are completely customisable, and as long as you work under the size parameters, you can create your own floor plan,” Timothy said.

As a builder, Timothy noticed how difficult it was to get a team to construct a house in rural areas. His solution was to build the Pod Homes in Launceston, and transport them out to the remote sites.

“As long as we can get access to your site with a truck, we can build there.”

As for his clients, Timothy says they are as varied as the homes themselves.

“We have a lot of people building holiday homes, a lot of accommodation, as well as fruit pickers huts for farmers. A lot of farms have been adding them onto their properties.”

Pod Homes’s first year at Agfest has seen many interested in learning about living in a tiny home. Their site is 531 on Fifth Avenue.
