Bringing a kaleidoscope to Agfest Equine Expo

Three riders and horses turned the Equine & Livestock Expo into a colorful runway

Stirling is a 12-year-old purebred Arabian horse ridden by Kirsty Neilley. At first sight, anyone would think he is just a pretty horse with love hearts at his back, but he transforms when dressed up in the Arabian costume: pompons and shiny details make him all the more stunning.

Fiona Bamford, from the Equestrian Collective, says the Arabian horse was a symbol of status among the Bedouin tribes, used for transportation, herding and protection.

Nowadays, the Collective keeps the tradition alive showcasing the costumes styled from Arabian horses.

They are one of the most ancient breeds in the world. Originally war horses, they’re very durable, tough and super faithful”, says Fiona.

This is the second year of the showcasing at Agfest, but the first time for Stirling. Kirsty says he is an endurance horse, which means they travel between 80 and 160 kilometers in one day.

Catch up with their presentations on Saturday, 12:45 pm.
