Carving up a sandstorm at Agfest

Sand carver Peter Bignell and his team are carving up a storm at this year’s Agfest.

Peter Bignell and his team of sand carvers are creating wonderful pieces of sand art at this year’s Agfest.

The theme this year is Boots, with three sculptures wowing the Agfest crowds.

“The first one is a Blundstone Boot. We see so many kids recognising it and getting really excited because it looks just like the ones on their feet. Our second is a motorbike boot, and the third is going to be a shopfront with a whole load of boots,” says Peter Bignell, sand carver.

The sculptures are made entirely of sand, with the carvers spending hours creating their masterpieces.

Sand sculpture is a popular art form around the world, with international sculptors coming together to create impressive works.

“Our sculptures can take anything from a few hours, to several weeks to complete. There are a few of us around Australia and we get together with a lot of international sculptors to work on projects that can last for up to two weeks using thousands of tonnes of sand,” says Peter.

Agfest visitors can see the sculptures done by Peter and his team on Eighth Avenue.
