Tasmania's Young Farmers of the Year

Rural Youth and Woolworths are back again for their yearly Woolworths Tasmanian Young Farmer of the Year Competition

Yesterday marked the opening in registration for the annual Woolworths Tasmanian Young Farmer of the Year Competition.

The Competition is open to anyone aged between 15 and 30; with contestants required to complete a range of practical and problem-solving challenges, like fence building, shearing, and agricultural quizzes that change every year.

Despite the name, would-be contestants don’t need to come from a farming background.

Rural Youth State President Brady Robins says the Young Farmer of the Year is a great place for those without an agricultural background to perfect the skills required to thrive in such a diverse industry.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to get to know and understand the agricultural industries, as well as an opportunity for people to tests their skills against others their own age.”

Last year’ winner Owen Woolley from Moriaty, Tasmania, walked away with a news Polaris, as well as a share of the $40,000 prize pool offered.

With registrations opening as of today and closing mid June, organisers as well as previous contestants highly recommend joining the approximately 30 other participants who will be in the run-off stage on the 27th of July.

If this is something for you, check out the sign up form on the Agfest website.
